Dr Scott Santarossa grew up in Melbourne. He completed his Bachelor of Science from the University of Melbourne and afterwards moved to Perth to earn his Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from the University of Western Australia. Dr Scott enjoys the variety that general dentistry brings. He specifically places his focus on dentist-patient communication.
Dr Scott has a particular interest in working with members of the Deaf community, having also completed a Certificate II and III in Auslan in Melbourne. He co-founded the Smiling Signs Auslan Resource in partnership with the Australian Dental Association and Deaf Australia, producing a collection of Auslan videos about oral health. Alongside Deaf community leaders, he has facilitated courses for dentists to learn more about the Deaf community and to encourage other dentists to be Deaf-aware.
His research into dental anxiety in the Australian Deaf population has led him to represent Australia and New Zealand at the 2023 International Association of Dental Research conference in Bogota, Colombia. As such, dental anxiety is an area of interest for him and finds fulfilment in seeing his research applied when working with his patients.
Outside of dentistry, Dr Scott enjoys writing short stories, travelling and working out at the gym.
